Everyone remembers their first flight very well. The excitement, your feet slowly rising of the ground, the wind in your face and, in my case, excruciating pain in my balls!

The very first flight I've done was on tow and only a couple of feet off the ground for around 20 meters. But it was enough to painfully introduce me to a problem I still tackle 5 years later.

Not many people talk about it openly but from my experience everyone suffers from this to a greater or lesser extent, and is probably the reason why pilots try to get in their seat as soon as they take-off and to get out as late as possible when landing.
Groin aside, this has very serious safety implications, not to mention how it limits your groundhandling, so in this video I tried to improve our existing groundhandling harness with some padding in the right places.

Our friend Joao Pedro invited us to go fly with him in the mountains near us and it was awesome to get back to thermal flying after so long flying at the beach.

I've definitely missed having enough space and height to fly around in every direction, 360, and listening to that beautiful vario go beep beep :)

All in all a great afternoon soaring and thermaling around and Gemma got her first taste of evening mountain flying too :) Awesome

NOVA ION 6 (EN B paraglider) – Adventure awaits

Three-liner | 51 cells | aspect ratio 5.19 | weight 4.7kg - size S

For nearly a decade the NOVA ION has represented something like the Swiss Army Knife or the VW Golf amongst paragliders: you can do “everything” with it and very few people actually need “more”. The spectrum ranges from relaxed local soaring to a 200+ km FAI triangle - and all this with a very high degree of passive safety and relatively low demands on the pilot. With the newest generation of the ION 6, this has not changed.

Despite this, it is a completely new design: The ION 6 has a higher projected aspect ratio than its predecessor, less curvature and shorter lines. Also, for the first time we have equipped an ION with
– performance-enhancing Mini-ribs
– Zig-Zag 3D-shaping
– a Mini-Rib Vector Tape as well as
– optimised wing twist in accelerated flight.
This leads a clear increase in performance, which is highly accessible to an extremely wide range of pilots happy, remains the same..

NOVA ION 6 (EN / LTF B Gleitschirm) – Adventure awaits

Seit rund einem Jahrzehnt stellt der NOVA ION so etwas dar wie das Schweizer Taschenmesser oder den VW Golf unter den Gleitschirmen: Man kann „alles“ damit machen und „mehr“ braucht eigentlich kaum jemand. Vom entspannten Cruisen am Hausberg bis hin zum FAI-Dreieck von 200+ km reicht das Spektrum – und das alles mit einem sehr hohen Maß an passiver Sicherheit und relativ geringem Anspruch an den Piloten. Mit der neuesten Generation ION 6, hat sich daran nichts geändert.

Trotzdem ist er ION 6 ist eine komplette Neuentwicklung: Er hat eine höhere projizierte Streckung als seine Vorgänger, weniger Krümmung und kürzere Leinen. Außerdem statten wir den Schirm erstmals aus mit:
– leistungsfördernden Mini-Ribs
– Zig-Zag 3D-Shaping
– einem Mini-Rib Vektorband
– sowie Schränkungsverstellung im Schnellflug.
Dies sorgt für einen klaren Leistungszuwachs. Die Positionierung als unkomplizierter EN / LTF B-Schirm mit hoher passiver Sicherheit, der ein extrem breites Spektrum an Piloten glücklich macht, bleibt jedoch gleich.

I've been wanting to tidy up the left side of the fireplace for all the things we need to keep there to start a fire. So I decided to build a box out of plywood with various sections. Main compartment is for kindling, then underneath for dryer lint (why throw it away when it's great for starting a fire) and then on the side paper and matches.

It's great to do these little projects start to end :)
