Gemma has always been wary of flying when there are lots of other pilots around, as she's scared of making a wrong move and causing an accident.

Like so many of you at the moment, we haven't flown in over a month, but we managed to put together this video from when Gemma asked Andre to come up with some simple tips on flying safely when the ridge gets busier.

Hopefully, it won't be much longer before we can get back out there, and fly together again!

It was quite a windy day so I took the opportunity to try Gemma's new Geo6 as it's a bit small for me. This made me think about weight ranges and what are the consequences and considerations when we fly our wing outside of the weight range.

In short, flying heavy can give us access to stronger flying conditions but it comes with some caveats, including:
- with higher wind come more turbulence
- more stress on the lines and cloth
- more dynamic glider behavior
- collapses will be more violent and demand faster reactions

SkyBean were nice enough to send us one of their chase cams that I've been wanting to fly for quite a while, so now that we have the new DJI Osmo Action the timing was perfect.

It was quite easy to put together and fly, I thought it would be more of a handful but then again, the conditions where particularly nice.

David from BGD had a demo Lynx (High EN-C Paraglider) that I could borrow and test fly and since he lives in a beautiful part of the country we decided to do a little day trip to get to know more about it.

We got a lot more that what we bargained for as the scenery was breathtaking and the mountain air intoxicating.

Both me and Gemma decided not to fly based on info from the local pilots on the site and conditions but it was a great experience none the less.

What better way to recover from major surgery than with some very fresh flying air!?

After months of health issues and travelling back and forth Gemma and I managed to share the sky at the same time!

The wind was quite strong at first but as usually it calmed down around sunset and there was plenty of lift around.

It's something every pilot has to deal with yet I see very little people talking about it.

Balls, lips, groin, genitals, call it whatever you want but they get destroyed if you hang from your harness for too long and maybe is the real reason most people don't do that much groundhandling?

Anyway this has been an issue for me and Gemma since always so we decided to try a cheap fall arrest harness as it has been recommended to us because it's affordable, has really wide straps, etc.

Turns out it's not all roses, and in the ball department certainly doesn't win any points but maybe it's a good base for a project?

We did a 2 week roadtrip through about 80% of the whole coastline of Scotland.

It was our first time in a converted camper van and wild camping and it was amazing!

Saw a lot of cool stuff and was a shame only one day was flyable but would recommend it to anyone!

Groundhandling and playing with a new wing is an important part to get familiar with it. Getting to know how it reacts, how long is the brake travel and how it feels in it's various sections.

We went to Bom Sucesso and it has the perfect dunes for this type of testing. I did a lot of stalls and some quite high and got to really find out the stall point of the wing. Really good fun and practise and feel more confident now that it isn't as much of an unknown.

Gemma also had a go at groundhandling the Lynx gently to add it to her experience bag as to how different wings feel. A great day out.

I've had a chance to borrow a BDG Seed to try out (thanks Mario!) and thought it would be the perfect opportunity to do a different video.

Groundhandling is for paragliding like sparring is for boxing. The Seed is rougly a half size wing and super super fun to throw around the park and have fun. Groundhanlding wings help you develop crucial skills to make our takeoffs, landings and flying in general much safer.

It was a lot of fun to shoot and not so fun to edit, but in the end I'm really happy how it came out.

It was raining so we tried to make paper paragliders instead of paper airplanes!
It's not easy but they worked surprisingly well! Turns out wingloading and line length are absolutely key (would you guess it :))

Really fun spending time together building stuff and hope to get back to it and build a proper 3D paper paraglider soon.

In this video Gemma set out to try do some exercises using height efficiently and in the end it turned out to be a stubborn fight to stay up.

The best lift isn't always really close to the hill, but at the beach, in marginal conditions, very often it is!

However staying as close to the terrain as possible to eke out every meter you can get has it's drawbacks. If you misjudge your path or get sink where you don't expect it the consequences can be very serious.

I had the problem of always making a mess in the kitchen when cutting bread slices.

So I decided to make this bespoke bread cutting board. With some extra features like a sliding closing lid and also the top of the board is a cutting board itself so it can be used as a cutting board for other things like cheese and other fillings :)

Over the weekend my cousin and his girlfriend came to visit us and at the same time storm Leslie blew past Portugal. It wasn't as bad as expected but the next day was still really windy so we went to see the legendary big waves of Nazare. Nice day out :)

My hand tools have been all over the place for a while and I had some reclaimed plywood and other parts kind of in the way so I thought I would put it all together in the shape of a toolbox or tool chest.

I started by measuring and adjusting the drawer sliders so that they were all the same length. Then based on that and the plywood I had I made a quick CAD model to define the look and dimensions and also to make sure I had enough wood.

Then I cut all the pieces to size and glue them together with rabbets and dadoes. It's really nice to work with good quality plywood :)

Then I fitted the drawer slides and this was the trickiest part. They didn't come out perfect but was good enough for my first try.

I finished by doing some drawer faces out of reclaimed flooring and put down stickers from all the makers I met at Makers Central back in May.

Now I'm one step closer to having a somewhat tidier workshop :)
