The wind was quite strong this day (30km+) so we took the opportunity to do some groundhandling which turned into a hovering and proximity session. Was really fun to do it and learnt a fair bit as the wind was just right.
Next time we have it like this we can try to do some wagga challenges :)

After two weeks of storms and bad weather we've finally had a great day here in the Peak District.

A lot of good pilots say that you learn more in an hour groundhandling than in an hour flying. If you do it enough you can just feel what you wing in going instead of looking at it.

I've always wondered what would happen if you tried to groundhandled blindfolded, so today I found out!

Worked surprisingly better than I expected and with the lack of vision you brain does draw more from the other senses. I was hearing more and feeling more through the risers, harness and brake lines.

I've been wondering about the ergonomics of paraglider controls for quite a while. What controls we have available, why are controls the shape they are, how we use them and why?

It always seems like accelerator systems have a bad reputation in paragliding and people don't use them as much as the brakes but it seems to me to be mainly a case of ergonomics.

At any rate, I just got interested and thought I'd play around with the idea of a paragliding joystick(s). A single controller that would allow a pilot to have control over roll and pitch, similar to conventional fixed wing aircraft.

In this first video I've created some small scale models to understand the mechanics better and also a full scale prototype that might allow me to do some ground testing... as soon as we get good weather.
