The NOVA Insights are a series of lectures, discussions, workshops, etc. They take place online and are aimed at ALL paraglider pilots - no matter what brand of wing they fly. The Insights are no marketing yada yada, they are about sharing knowledge and experience, and above all about "making you want to fly". The NOVA Insights last about one hour each. It is explicitly desired that the audience join in and ask questions.

Was haben ein X-Alps Zweileiner, ein Schulungsschirm und ein Acro-Schirm gemeinsam? Was unterscheidet sie?

Philipp Medicus, Leiter der Entwicklung bei NOVA, beleuchtet die Synergien bei der Entwicklung dieser unterschiedlichen Gleitschirme. Er zeigt überraschende Parallelen, die trotz der vordergründigen Gegensätze bestehen, und erklärt, weshalb ein Schulungs-Schirm von der Entwicklung eines Acro-Schirms oder eines Zweileiners profitiert.

Die NOVA Insights sind eine Serie von Vorträgen, Diskussionen, Workshops usw. Sie finden online statt und richten sich an ALLE Gleitschirmflieger – egal, welche Schirmmarke sie fliegen. Hier geht es nicht um Marketing, sondern um Wissens- und Erfahrungsvermittlung sowie vor allem um das „Lustaufsfliegenmachen“. Die NOVA Insights dauern jeweils ca. eine Stunde. Es ist explizit erwünscht, dass die Zuhörer mitmachen und Fragen stellen.

In our pursuit to find "the flight line" we ended up doing loads more flying passes lower and lower to see if we could scratch our way out of it.

I also share some tips on how to maximize flights, by going to minimum sink position when in light lift, and turning in lift rather than flying past it.

Really good fun and good practice to get the skills for those scratchy days!

The Prologue is an important event for the Red Bull X-Alps athletes which takes place in Wagrain Kleinarl (Salzburg) a few days before the official race start at Salzburg city. The first three to finish win an additional Night Pass which allows them to skip another mandatory night rest. Time penalties will also be distributed. The event is the perfect warm-up for the X-Alps. Moreover, there is definitely no lack of motivation and fun.

Der Prolog ist ein wichtiges Ereignis für die Red Bull X-Alps Athleten, das in Wagrain Kleinarl (Salzburg) ein paar Tage vor dem offiziellen Rennstart in Salzburg stattfindet. Die ersten drei im Ziel gewinnen einen zusätzlichen Night Pass, der es ihnen erlaubt, eine weitere verpflichtende Nachtruhe auszulassen. Es werden auch Zeitstrafen verteilt. Das Event ist das perfekte Warm-Up für die X-Alps. Außerdem fehlt es eindeutig nicht an Motivation und guter Laune.

I used the g4 gimbal from: www.feiyu-tech.com plus an optional cable to charge the camera trough the gimbal via an external 4 A/h 2S Lipo battery pack. With this set up you can fly up to 5 hours with the go pro 4 black (it needs a lot of energy). A remote is being used to start/stop the camera or change settings. You can use the go pro app to have a pre view when flying - that works really well with the latest version of the app! It is important to attach the arrow on two points, as you can see in the footage, otherwise you will have vibrations on the roll axis. It needs to be balenced from the top to the end. The wind sack is needed to keep the distance harmonies - one can evan fly reasonably high wing overs with the right sice. The external battery pack should be mounted on the string that is being attached to the glider close to where the wind sack is attached. This way the wait of the battery is smoothing out the movements being created by the wind sack.
You need to drill two holes into the gimbal in order to get the cables in. Minus pole is at the end. You don´t need to do this, but the time u gonna be able to film is being limited to the battery life of the camera and that is not long at all with the wifi being turned on.

Camera setting: I found the 2.7k 4:3 setting being the most efficient, one can choose the crop in the edit later (move up and down) + keep the go pro battery in the camera when u charge it through the gimbal, otherwise it will be unreliable.
Start: It helps if the person helping you to take off understands the process off taking off, otherwise you will see is crash!!!
Landing: With the right length off the line you should be able to catch the arrow in most cases.
Gimbal setting: There are three speed settings on it, fast creates to much unneeded movements, medium I found to work, the best.

Would be really happy to see footage/improvements from other versions!

Of course, Chrigel is not a NOVA pilot. Though we were there to celebrate the winner. Hats off to this great performance!

We've just reached 6000 subs so I thought we'd go somewhere nice (Sao Martinho do Porto, Portugal) and talk about logbooks.

Maybe pilot flight logbooks are not as common with paraglider pilots as they are in general aviation pilots but I put forward the case that they should be the norm.

They help pilots track their currency, set aims and objectives and if nothing else keep a great log of their adventures.

Next time the channel hits a random ammount of subscribers or I'm short on videos I'll tell you another story from my logbook :)
