Lễ hội dù lượn được tổ chức thường xuyên hàng năm vào mùa lúa chín do câu lạc bộ dù lượn Vietwings tổ chức, nằm trong chuỗi sự kiện "Lễ hội văn hóa, du lịch Mường Lò và khám phá ruộng bậc thang Mù Cang Chải. Lễ hội được tổ chức tại đèo Khau Phạ.
Festival dù lượn 'Bay trên mùa nước đổ' năm 2020 diễn ra từ ngày 30/5-15/7/2020 ở xã Cao Phạ, huyện Mù Cang Chải, tỉnh Yên Bái.

One of our friends has a Niviuk Icepeak 6 and was kind enough to let me have a go. It is a 2012, 2 liner EN-D Wing so a cross country/competition wing with very high pilot demands, but since it was a nice day at the beach I thought it was ok to try out.
Unfortunately there wasn't a lot of wind to try out the wing properly and I spent the full time I was in the air trying desperately not to land.
Most apparent things are how heavy and reinforced the leading edge is, the span-wise movement and how much the wing "talks" in flight.
All in all I really wish I could fly it some more :)

Hard to tell the exact wind strenght but it might have been around 35-45km/h
So we decided it was too much for Gemma because of experience and weight.
So I had a go and it was quite top end for me. Despite the wind noise and effort from pushing into wind I tried to give some reasons why I do things the way I do. Hope it was helpful to someone :)

I've made some tool handle blanks using epoxy and other materials.
I only had time to finish the wooden one but it came out really nice.
I broke the wood in half so that it would have shards and pointy bits, then built a case around it and poured the epoxy in.
For the other blanks I used sawdust, screw heads, electrical wires and thermochromic pigment, which changes colour when it goes above a certain temperature. I will look into those in a future video :)

What difference does it make if a glider is short or tall? We decided to find out by making some extensions for the RoadRunner and going out and testing it.
Results are... interesting! It feels more docile and things take a little while to happen, so that's nice. It's also nearly impossible to fly as it feels mega weird and the pendulum effect screws with your brain.

Sometimes the right day just comes along :)
It was a bit too weak at first but then the wind picked up just enough to make lauching and staying up easy.
Gemma launched, I launched too and took the osmo with me. These buttery smooth shots to me really convey what flying feels like for me.
It was a great half an hour of smooth sailing together and just soaking it all in. Perfect.

I was very reluctant to release this video as I found it quite embarrassing for the mistakes in judgement that we had, but then thought that if everyone hides their mistakes then as a sport we evolve much slower.
Gemma was keen to fly and the forecast looked good, but when we got to the hill it was a bit strong.
Still decided to launch and give it a go but didn't recognize the signs of too much wind fast enough. Also she's probably a bit low on the weight range of her glider which didn't help matters much.
All in all landed safe and lived to tell the tale. I was just worried all the way as I knew that a small mistake in flight path or a small increase in wind strength would have meant being washed behind the hill and into the lee-side, with potentially deadly consequences.

To me one of the most appealing parts of PPG is being able to maintain altitude, being it 1000ft or 10ft.
So as I get more comfortable with the motor and gain more experience and finesse with the throttle I started doing lower and lower passes to test the waters.
It's definitely important to have a good upright position (which I didn't have at first) but also having the air conditions in mind (not too bumpy) as well as the space you're doing it in. Great fun and look forward to doing more.
Also got to try the Moster185 on the Parajet V3 frame and really enjoyed having more power!
