Ahihi.

We had an awesome day in the Peaks and with it being a sunny spring day there were lots of little thermals around pushing paraglider pilots up way above where ridge lift would take them.

I couldn't take video in flight but shared some basic ideas of how thermal flying works from the ground.

In our pursuit to find "the flight line" we ended up doing loads more flying passes lower and lower to see if we could scratch our way out of it.

I also share some tips on how to maximize flights, by going to minimum sink position when in light lift, and turning in lift rather than flying past it.

Really good fun and good practice to get the skills for those scratchy days!

Come groundhandling with us!
https://www.andrebandarra.com/retreats

You shouldn't cut any lines on your paraglide! But if like me you ever wondered what would happen if one of them pinged-off then this might go a little ways to explore that.

Turns out the further back the better, probably, and the stabilio has a surprising role to play!

Now that winds are lighter it was time to find out if the skills that Gemma acquired on the Seed are transferable to full size wings.

Turns out, pretty much yeah. And also we took the opportunity to have a play in the dunes for the first time :D

Jack let me try his acro glider and it was awesome, just a shame it was too small for me to fly!

It's an Advance Omikron 17 I believe and the thing that catches your eye (and hands) straight away is how heave duty everything is. The risers are big and padded, the lines are thick, the cloth is heavy and even though the wing itself is very small it is miles away! and that really influences how it feel when groundhandling as the energy/inertia builds really quickly.

If you have the chance to try different wings in a safe way I really recommend it :)

4 Basic Groundhandling Exercises - BANDARRA
4 Basic Groundhandling Exercises - BANDARRA AndreBandarra 14 Lượt xem • 4 năm trước kia

When I came up with the Groundhandling challenge the original idea was always to make it a challenge as a whole rather than just a collection of disjointed exercises.
https://www.groundhandlingchallenge.com/

So in this video I've taken the challenge myself to complete all the A level exercises in one go. It was very windy and super turbulent. Luckily I used the 14m2 BGD Seed otherwise there was no chance of doing this.
http://www.flybgd.com/en/parag....liders/paraglider-se

In the end it was a full on workout and really challenging, which is interesting given that the exercises themselves are very very simple. I completed all 4 in around 27minutes and 30 seconds. I'm sure I can do better next time.

Book into the Groundhandling retreat here :)

I know I know, the Dudek Run&Fly is lighter (not by much) but if you didn't know about paragliders isn't this just amazing!? Imagine telling it so some random person on the street. They can leave the ground and fly on something that weighs less than the clothes they have on!? Crazy!

The Ozone XXLite 2 and F*Lite harness is all you need to fly and all together only weights 1.5kg! Wing and harness combined! That's how much water you should drink a day!

Big thanks to Olaf for coming to visit us and letting us try his wing :)

Full Build, Sewing Machine Singer 354 - BANDARRA
Full Build, Sewing Machine Singer 354 - BANDARRA AndreBandarra 48 Lượt xem • 4 năm trước kia

I was sewing a project using my mom's vintage Singer 354 Starlet when I heard a terrible noise. Upon inspection, the teeth of one of the main gears had been stripped.

A few months later I managed to get a replacement gear only to discover I would have to pretty much tear down the whole machine to change it.
I took this opportunity to really disassemble the whole sewing machine and give it a good overall maintenance.

It all went back together fine and it's working again, but it took me about a week to complete the whole thing. Hope you enjoyed the process.

Short Paraglider Experiment! Day 15 - 30 Day Youtube Challenge - BANDARRA
Short Paraglider Experiment! Day 15 - 30 Day Youtube Challenge - BANDARRA AndreBandarra 55 Lượt xem • 4 năm trước kia

I've always wondered what would happen if a glider had really long lines or really short ones, or you only had half a wing, or two wings?

Well finally I got round to testing the short paraglider idea. I took a very old "ground handling only" paraglider I had laying around and I crudely shortened the lines.

Even as it was before the wing would often just hang back and not want to fly overhead so had to solve that problem by releasing the brakes and also artificially putting on some speedbar. If I had the time it would have been better to proportionally release the Ds, Cs and Bs.

In the end it kind of worked despite the wind conditions not being ideal to test it. Managed to keep it above my head for a full minute so it was definitely manageable despite everything.

What I took away from it was that it was a bit more snappy compared to what it was before but generally speaking similar in roll and pitch. It would have been because of the turbulence at this site but it felt like it was more responsive in yaw than before.
