Had the great pleasure to meet and interview Cristiano Pereira, the founder of Flymaster. Over the years Flymaster was built from nothing to now being the dominant brand in flight instruments for paragliding.

Cristiano tells us not only about the current range of products but also hints at big future developments as well as insight of what it is like to be a supplier of a complete livetracking system to the PWCA for instance, happening right now in Colombia.

All in all Cristiano is a super interesting guy, with tons of experience and with real love for the sport. Can't wait to bump into him again in the future.

To me one of the most appealing parts of PPG is being able to maintain altitude, being it 1000ft or 10ft.
So as I get more comfortable with the motor and gain more experience and finesse with the throttle I started doing lower and lower passes to test the waters.

It's definitely important to have a good upright position (which I didn't have at first) but also having the air conditions in mind (not too bumpy) as well as the space you're doing it in. Great fun and look forward to doing more.

Also got to try the Moster185 on the Parajet V3 frame and really enjoyed having more power!

In this section Hannes talks about how he got into paragliding back in 1986, what the industry was like then and how he started designing paragliders.

It's really interesting to see how far we've come and to learn how a Commodore 128 and kitchen dishes played a crucial rode in the development of his, revolutionary at the time, first glider.

Ideally I'd like to groundhandle in a windtunnel but this is the next best thing we could find :)

I've always wanted to do this and with a lot of help from Gemma's help we finally managed to take a first step and play around with tell tales to try to visualise airflow around a paraglider wing.

I was surprised that we even managed to catch a little wingtip vortex with our umbrella contraption :)

The weather was quite changeable so we started with one plan but ended up with another.

All in all it was a great session for Gemma to get used to and slowly getting comfortable groundhandling on takeoff and the challenges that come with it.

Groundhandling and playing with a new wing is an important part to get familiar with it. Getting to know how it reacts, how long is the brake travel and how it feels in it's various sections.

We went to Bom Sucesso and it has the perfect dunes for this type of testing. I did a lot of stalls and some quite high and got to really find out the stall point of the wing. Really good fun and practise and feel more confident now that it isn't as much of an unknown.

Gemma also had a go at groundhandling the Lynx gently to add it to her experience bag as to how different wings feel. A great day out.

I've heard that the safest way to get introduced to wingovers is to try to do them with weight-shift only.

Even though I've been doing them for years it never occurred to me to actually try it. Because the wind was strong, we had plenty of lift and an empty ridge so it was the perfect time to do it.

Turns out that compared to wingovers with the brakes, weight shift wingovers are much more sensitive to timing, and roll a lot more than yaw. In regular wingovers it's more a mix of the two.

If you have the right experience and environment to try it out, really recommend it :)

I've been playing around with the idea of making a collapse alarm for a while so now that line tension measurements are more reliable with the new sensors looked right the right time to do it.

It's a pretty simple system that monitors line tensions and beeps a buzzer if some conditions are met. It has taken a long time to get to this stage as I work on it on and off and with the weather not always playing ball.

Also I've done a lot more coding at the beach than what I would like but hey, next time will be better :)

I've been wanting to try woodturning for a bit and with having made the epoxy handles a few days ago I now had a good excuse for it.

Because I'm cheap I had the idea of turning my cheap pillar drill into a lathe. Mounted it horizontally and made some attachements.

The result wasn't great. Didn't quite work as expected as the was a lot of miss-alignment, difficulty in gripping the work piece and the tool rest wasn't sturdy enough. Also probably didn't help that I was using chisels.

This year we decided to do something different and drive down to Arrábida. It's the "Portuguese Oludeniz" but 5x shorter :)
It was great fun as we don't get to fly there very often an a fun filled 2 days.

Canopy inspection is a mostly visual inspection of the leading edge, top and bottom surfaces, trailing edge, line tabs and seams of the wing to make sure all is in good condition.

Finally we had some half decent weather and got to practice some more side control. Gemma did a lot better and at the end we even manage to make up a new game "THE SQUARE!!!" ahahah.

If you want to play it yourself just draw a 5m x 5m square on the ground and time how long it takes you to get around it. If you step inside the square or the wing touches the ground you lose. Can you beat Gemma's time!?
