It was blown out for flying so we went to our local landing field to play with the BGD Seed, this wing is a blast!

I was just playing with it and Gemma was having fun with the camera so it was out of chance that this video came to be.

I was trying to do the 360 (E4 on groundhandlingchallenge.com) and it ended up being a lot of fun. Didn't quite get it fully dialed in but made some good progress towards it :)

What difference does it make if a glider is short or tall? We decided to find out by making some extensions for the RoadRunner and going out and testing it.

Results are... interesting! It feels more docile and things take a little while to happen, so that's nice. It's also nearly impossible to fly as it feels mega weird and the pendulum effect screws with your brain.

Andre left me...on my own for a day to do some groundhandling on my own for the first time in, well, forever. I picked an airfield that wasn't too far away from home in case I got into trouble, but it turned out to be pretty strong when I arrived. We've been wanting to fly Nazare for almost 2 years and today was finally the day. Very seldom we have the right conditions to fly it and to add to that the takeoffs are mega hard, steep and dangerous.

There's usually lots lift around as the cliff is high and steep so if you can get past the tricky launch phase you're good! Amazing view too, can't wait to go back and fly it on a sunny day!

In this video I go through the thought process for creating the sensors for my uncollapsible paraglider project.

I attached strain gauges on the maillons. This means that as the lines pull the maillons they get stressed and as this happens they get stretched slightly.

The strain gauges will stretch with the maillon and this causes the resistance of the strain gauge to change slightly.

In my next video I'll try to build a system that can read this change in resistance to calculate the tension on the maillons.

A few people have asked me to build a laser line measurement rig for paragliders and I finally got the perfect excuse with the uncollapsible and making a paraglider series as it will become quite useful.

It uses a pretty inexpensive digital laser measure and you should be able to get one from amazon if you're interested (affiliate link)

We've just reached 6000 subs so I thought we'd go somewhere nice (Sao Martinho do Porto, Portugal) and talk about logbooks.

Maybe pilot flight logbooks are not as common with paraglider pilots as they are in general aviation pilots but I put forward the case that they should be the norm.

They help pilots track their currency, set aims and objectives and if nothing else keep a great log of their adventures.

Next time the channel hits a random ammount of subscribers or I'm short on videos I'll tell you another story from my logbook :)

Gemma's been winning a lot, so she decided to tackle one of the hardest exercises, the 360 or ground spin.
There was a lot of trying and a lot of failing but we had to call it quits after 4 hours without doing it fully once but she's closer!

Moral of the story, keep practicing and try to not be disappointed when you don't get what you want straight away. Good effort thought.

I got invited to a hanggliding tow demo day for pilots wanting to try Avian and A-I-R gliders.

Talking about Matt Wilkes´reserve repack studies got us seriously considering our safety in paragliding, and how well we know our reserve parachutes. We were ashamed to realise that our reserves were well overdue for a repack, and we wanted to get more comfortable with the procedure - and doing it REGULARLY.
So, we threw and repacked our reserve parachutes a bunch of times, and learnt a lot in the process...including making our own accessories.

This was awesome! There's something special about working on something for so long and finally getting to use it.

I've upgraded the electronics and built an enclosure so that the tension measuring system is portable.
I'm using two different channels and this system can go up to 4.

I used a kite to make testing easier and for the most part it worked quite well.
It highlighted a few issues I suspected would be there and this feeds well into the next phase of the project which is to develop better sensors.
