I was only a 4 hour pilot and a lot of things came together to create an accident, as it is usually the case.

I'm sharing it as it might help others not make the same mistakes I did. I was very lucky to get away with it without a scratch but with a bruised ego, which probably was a very important first lesson!

In October 2016 João Brum flew 318km with his BGD Cure in Quixadá as part of a group of friends that have broken many other records in the Brazilian Sertão.

This is a short interview with João in which not only we cover the flight but also what it was like to learn to fly paragliders in the 90's, some amazing stories of "back in the day" as well as key preparation to fly long distances in Brazil.

The response to the previous video has been immense, thank you everyone for the suggestions and support! On this video I thought I'd show you where we are so far with the game.

First I explain the concepts of horizontal and vertical speed on a glider and glide ration and why it has it's limitations as a method to cover large distances.

Then with thermals we introduce the concept of the thermal+glide cycle and how this helps us to cover very large distances.

Finally we put these theories to the test using the game as a simulation and it worked fairly well.

We had some extra footage from the stalls video that would have made it way too long. But we liked it so much that we decided to do another video with it.

I think it really captures well what freeflight is all about, being at one with nature, minimal kit, and surfing the air waves up and down with the birds. Just amazing.

Also, did I mention that the Lynx gliders for ever?! :D

So, we clip in to our wings so that we can fly in a comfortable position and look where we are going. But when groundhandling we mostly want to look at the wing and see what's going on.

If you're facing forward tooking up and behind you is too hard, and if you're facing backwards the risers are crossed and right in your face. What about clipping in backwards just for groundhandling?

Well we tried it, and it's surprisingly nice.
